Job Description
Full-Time, 72 hours per pay period. 12 hour rotating shifts including every other weekend/holiday.
The Registered Nurse in Pulmonary is responsible for utilizing the nursing process to provide quality, competent nursing care pulmonary patients, families and significant others. The nurse in this role will be expected to assess and provide competent, safe care for patients from adolescence to geriatrics. The nurse in this role must have excellent clinical and communication skills and critically think patient outcomes. Some clinical skills expected are: age-related patient assessment, medication administration, IV insertion and maintenance, cardiac monitoring and treatment, pulmonary assessment and intervention, maintaining and monitoring cardiopulmonary status, ventilators, tracheotomy care and assessment, wound/dressing care, etc. Is expected to work collaboratively with other team members, and physicians and healthcare workers to deliver this care.
Job Knowledge and Skills: Following a competency based formal orientation, competence and performance is expected. Must understand and use nursing process. Must be able to critically think and be self directed to manage patient care. Must be able to delegate, collaborate and negotiate with team members. Must be able to patient teach to all patients from adolescents to geriatrics. Must be able to communicate effectively to physicians, families and patients and other involved providers i.e. other healthcare workers. Must pass a Basic Arrhythmia and Ventilator Class. Refer to Orientation/Self Assessment for complete list of competencies.
The RN functions within the scope and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the South Dakota Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules. The Sanford Nursing Practice recognizes the Scope and Standards of Practice (2004) and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements (2001) as published by the American Nurses Association as the foundation for nursing care delivery.
When students are providing patient care, treatment, and/or services as a part of their training, any/all employees may be asked to supervise the students.
Required Skills
Graduation from a NLN or AACN accredited nursing program is strongly preferred. Graduate from an approved nursing program is acceptable. Bachelor's Degree in nursing preferred. Currently licensed with the applicable State Nursing Board and/or possess multistate licensure privileges as required by position.
