Job Description JOB DESCRIPTION: Provides primary care to patients. Assists in the evaluation and treatment of patients. Conducts patient interviews, and collects and interprets diagnostic data. May perform physical examinations and specialized procedures under the direction of a physician. Documents the delivery of care in the individual's medical records. Provides patient education, and trains other health care professionals. Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Certified as a Nurse Practitioner. Licensed as a nurse and approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner by the state of Georgia. Two years of clinical nursing experience may be required for some positions.
Addendum to Job Description The Head and Neck Surgery Nurse Practitioner additional responsibilities:

Outpatient Clinical support:

1. see and evaluate patients in clinic
2. see and evaluate physicians-- patients emergently as needed on days that physician is not in clinic
3. eventually, the NP will have a concurrent clinic which will address POV, long term return patients, and prn patients
4. check on results of studies and pathology and refer to clinician for appropriate rendering
5. contact patients with results of studies
6. coordinate multidisciplinary care
7. update clinical information of HN patients in database for quality measures evaluation
8. verify medical clearance for procedures
9. work with scheduling office to arrange timely overbooks and appointments for patients with the guidance of clinicians.
10. coordinate timely patients with other disciplines in WCI, Endocrine Service, Thoracic service, etc.
11. document in EEMR all correspondence and requests for information from referring physicians, medical clearance records, slides request, outside records/ films requests.

Inpatient clinical support:
1. round on HN patients and help coordinate care and timely disposition of patients
2. assist in surgery as needed, particularly when physician(s) are operating.
3. help coordinate the transition between hospital discharge and appropriate post surgical consultations and treatment appointments.

Research support:
1. help coordinate care with clinical trials office at WCI for biopsies requested by WCI
2. help support physician(s) in investigator initiated clinical head and neck trials
3. maintain a database of HN patients
Preferred Qualifications ENT experience with heavy exposure to head and neck cancer, oncology, pre and post operative care and ability to teach patients care.
Additional Job Details Review patient history (internal and external records) and retrieve imaging studies in advance of the attending see the patient.

2. Obtain clear and concise history (or interval history) and present to the attending.

3. Perform head and neck physical examination and report finding to the attending surgeon.

4. Demonstrate use and care of endoscopes.

5. Review findings and recommendations of tumor boards and implement recommendations in conjunction with attending.
