Job Description:
 

The Assistant Director of Nursing is a registered professional nurse with progressive administrative experience who supports Clinical Nurse Managers of assigned care centers to fulfill responsibilities for overall management of hospital and patient care services on assigned shifts.
1.Assists clinical nurses to solve patient care problems.
2.Supports, implements, and interprets the philosophy, objectives, policies and
standards for nursing care of patients and families.
3.Investigates patient complaints, and applies appropriate interventions as necessary. 4.Refers follow-up range solutions to clinical nurse manager or other appropriate person.
5.Assists nursing personnel to establish and implement safety standards and to monitor environment for hazards.
6.Identifies educational needs of staff and communicates needs to Clinical Nurse 7.Manager and Education Specialist.
8.Acts as clinical, administrative and educational resource to staff.
9.Participates in committee activities of the Nursing Department, and the hospital.
10.Keeps knowledge current regarding trends and developments in nursing theory, practice and administration.
11.Participates in and utilizes research pertinent to nursing practice.
12.Assists clinical nurses to develop patient management and leadership skills.
13.Provides feedback to Clinical Nurse Managers regarding performance of personnel assigned to shift of responsibility.
14.Attends conferences for professional development, and shares information with colleagues/ Nursing staff.
15.Considers ethical issues with patient care and upholds the Code of Ethics in Nursing Practice.
16.Identifies, evaluates and intercedes in institutional problems of an immediate nature. Refers follow-up to appropriate department manager/administrator on call as needed, and maintains continuity of communications between shifts.
17.Participates in the formation of personnel policies, interprets established policies and evaluates their effectiveness.
18.Supports implementation of the vision, goals and objectives of the Department, and hospital.
19.Determines utilization and allocation of personnel based on approved nursing care hours, and patients' acuity.

Job Qualifications:
 

1.Ability to assess situations, set priorities and utilize resources.
2.Communications and interpersonal skills to work effectively with a wide variety of individuals and groups.
3.Demonstrates flexibility and ability to adapt to change.
4.Oriented to consumer satisfaction.
5.Ability to use basic data entry and retrieval systems, and to be familiar with nursing care hours the acuity trends for the nursing units.
6.Physical stamina, dexterity, visual and aural acuity to respond quickly to emergency situations and to perform within parameters of position.
7.New York State License with current registration.
8.Baccalaureate Degrees in Nursing preferred.
9.Relevant progressive clinical and administrative experience.
