The city is a classic New England city with a population of 20,000 people located in central Vermont. The main industry is General Electric, which operates a turbine jet engine manufacturing business and has done so since the 1950s. There are numerous smaller industries and tourism remains vital to the area with the popularity of skiing, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, boating, hiking, and scenic touring. In the summer months they have music in the park in the city bandstand, Friday Night Live where a downtown city street is closed and music and art are incorporated for a block party setting. Fall brings beautiful foliage and crisp days and is one of our quickest, busiest tourist times. Winter brings tourism that includes some of the best skiing east of the Mississippi, to Killington, Pico, Okemo, Bromley, and Stratton ski resorts.

Opera fans can find great performances close by in Burlington, VT or Hanover, NH. Saratoga Performing Arts Center in NY, a natural outdoor amphitheater, is an hour drive away and is a beautiful setting to enjoy Opera, ballet (The NYC Ballet practices here in the summer), and rock concerts - the line-up for this past summer was Rush, Nichelback, John Mayer, GooGoo Dolls, Meatloaf, Lifehouse, Moody Blues, Allman Brothers Band, Incubus, and Dave Matthews.

There are wild flower walks, Green Mountain hiking club, farmers markets, and contra dances throughout the county.

Kid's activities include skiing, ice hockey, and soccer to name a few. We have six dance studios and a gymnastic facility here in the city. Local art galleries offer many art classes for kids. The state is filled with exceptional wilderness type camps, both overnight and day types. Vermont ranks best in the country for number of teacher per student ratio in our public schools.

For adults there are beautiful golf courses close by, excellent skiing, many Yoga studios, 3 large health clubs and several small ones, indoor tennis, art classes, carving classes, fishing and hunting schools, outlet shopping, hiking, book clubs, boating, and numerous outdoor activities.

Vermont has long been a beautiful vacation destination. You can enjoy it's beauty and serenity year round.
