DIRECTOR of NICU

Our level III B Neonatal Intensive Care Unit - the highest level of care for premature and sick infants and the largest NICU available in the area - has 42 beds with a planned expansion (to between 50-60 beds). We also have a busy 8-bed Progressive Care Nursery and our NICU Transport team does an average of 12 transports/month. In addition, our high-risk OB center does approximately 300 births monthly.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Nursing Director is the vital link between the mission and vision of the hospital and the delivery of safe patient and family-centered care that is compassionate, evidence-based and resulting in the highest quality care. Reporting directly to the Chief Nursing Officer, this role requires collaboration with the physicians, senior administration, directors and other professional colleagues to meet the diverse and continually changing challenges of the healthcare environment.

The NICU Nurse Director must be a creative, autonomous, future-oriented, risk-taking entrepreneur who applies nursing expertise, critical thinking and effective leadership as well as management skills to ensure that quality care is provided through satisfied and inspired professionals.

Additionally, the NICU Nurse Director holds responsibility and accountability for the NICU, Progressive Care Nursery, Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, Transport Coordinator and Educator as well as maintains a strong, collegial relationship with the Medical Director. The NICU Nurse Director also plays a very import role in the NICU Services Outreach programs.

Ideal candidate will have experience in a similar sized NICU (at least 32 bed NICU), preferably with a transport team.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

* Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Kansas
* BSN from an accredited school of nursing
* Master's Degree
* Clinical expertise in direct patient care within a NICU setting
* Minimum of 3yrs Director experience in NICU
* Requires a high level of critical thinking and analytical skills to make leadership decisions related to service growth and managing through the stages of growth
