Neuroscience Unit (PCU II)
Founded in 1976, Northside Hospital and Tampa Bay Heart Institute is a 288-bed facility located in the heart of South Pinellas County, Florida. As a Primary Stroke Center accredited by the Joint Commission, we are committed to ensuring our patients have access to the highest levels of stroke care available. Our Neuroscience Unit is a 28-bed Neuro-Telemetry unit, offering exceptional care for the Neuro/Stroke patients we serve.
- Number of Staff: 50
- Skill Mix: RN, LPN, Unit Secretary, Monitor Technician, CNA, Student Nurse
- Major Equipment Used: IV pumps, Dinamaps, Dopplers, ARJO lifting equipment
- Special Certifications Needed: BLS, NIHSS (offered and required within initial 6 months on the job), ACLS within 6 months of hire
- Special Competencies/Skills Needed: EKG/Telemetry
- Schedules: 12-hour shifts (7-7); Full Time is considered 36 hours per week, including every other weekend
- Dress code: Tasteful scrubs (individual provides their own)
- Designated Charge Nurse/Clinical Coordinator who DOES NOT take an assignment
At Northside, we utilize complete computerized charting through the Meditech system for our patient assessment and care documentation. We also utilize eMAR, our electronic medication administration record for the delivery of all medications provided to our patients.

Required Job Qualifications include:
- Current licensure as an RN.
- Current certification as a BLS Healthcare Provider and ACLS through the American Heart Association.
- Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
- Customer service abilities including effective listening skills.
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.
- Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds.
