Our Acute Care for the Elderly (ACE) unit is designed to meet the special needs of the older patient and reduce the risk of developing complications, with the goal of maintaining the patient's funcitonality and independence. This specialized treatment helps older adults regain and maintain good function and reduce their hospital stay.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The professional nurse on the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) uses the nursing process to plan, implement, evaluate and document patient care. The professional nurse considers the patient's physical, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, language barriers, age, teaching needs, and readiness to learn. The professional nurse demonstrates knowledge of EKG monitoring and treatment of hypotension and dysrhythmias. The professional nurse demonstrates knowledge of commonly used medications and possesses skill in calculating mediations and fluid dosages. The professional nurse follows the hospital chest pain protocol. The professional nurse demonstrates knowledge of physiologic changes and common complications associated with specific disease states. The professional nurse involves the interdisciplinary team in the plan of care and patient intervention. The RN II uses an autonomous practice. The RN II independently anticipates professional responsibilities and accepts accountability for professional actions. The RN II uses critical thinking skills in daily practice. The RN II participates in departmental Performance Improvement activities and monitoring as requested.
